A beautiful August morning watching Sharpies launch at Brancaster Staithe today as part of the 61st European Sharpie Championships which runs until Friday. Around 50 of these gaff rigged classic boats are taking part, from the UK (including Brancaster Staithe, Wells and Burnham Overy harbours), the Netherlands, and Germany; designed in 1931, the Sharpie is a former Olympic class boat - in fact Chuckles, sailing this week, was the UK bronze medal winning boat in the 1956 Olympics. #summer #sailing #classicboat #sharpies #gaffrig #brancasterstaithe #harbour #european #championships #northnorfolk #coast #lifeonthecoast #northnorfolkliving #sails #reflections #August

🐾 Bella the border collie took NNL writer Sarah Hardy on a five mile walk around the pretty villages of Little and Great Massingham, taking in some of Peddars Way. ☕️First was a fuelling up stop at Biagio’s in East Rudham which included a doggychino before the easy walk along pretty country tracks though farmland, with a few unexpected guests along the way! 🍴Finally drinks were enjoyed at The Dabbling Duck and then lunch at The Cartshed Tearoom which was new to us. Another great day, with a bit of exercise, gorgeous countryside, and cake, of course! 📚Burnham Market is fast becoming a destination for bibliophiles. Alongside Paper Moon Books (@papermoonbookseller is passionate about selecting interesting reads and has a good selection of books by local authors) and the two storey second-hand bookshop @brazenheadbook with its yards and yards of titles, the village is also home to Old School Books which opened this spring. 📚This cafe and bookshop is housed in the lovely cobbled building that is 20 North Street, once the village’s infant school. Inside, expect homemade cakes, really good coffee, art for sale on the walls from @pocockstheartmonger and a well-considered collection of beautiful books, with some perhaps unexpected titles in their midst. 📚Food is definitely a theme running across the shelves, with a fantastic array celebrating the joy of good food, its history, how to grow and use it (there’s a great selection on fermentation, for instance), but nature, travel, poetry and fiction also feature (don’t miss the selection of reissued neglected classics from Persephone Books). Reads for children and young adults have their places, too. ☕️We really enjoyed our coffees and were kindly given slices of their delicious spiced plum cake each to try. Books, coffee and cake? 🐾 An unexpected break in this week’s wet weather saw NNL writer Sarah Hardy and Bella the border collie walk from Holme to Old Hunstanton, out alongside the River Hun and the golf course, and back on the Coast Path and beach which was about four miles in all. 🐾 It’s an easy stroll and all the nicer with a stop at the bakery @whitehorseholme for coffee and cake followed by lunch @thornhamdeli.
