🌷NNL writer Sarah Hardy visits the Tulips for Tapping fields in West Norfolk - the hottest ticket in the county at the moment! 🌷The colourful fields - stretching to 32 acres with nine million blooms and 11 different varieties - open to the public for just a few days a year, raising much needed funds for Tapping House, an end of life hospice nearby. It’s quite a sight and very uplifting - and great for photo opportunities! 🌷This year is a sell out but watch out for tickets next year. #tulipsfortapping

🐦‍⬛Flying start

Congratulations to local author Charlie Bingham, whose debut book - The Life-Affirming Magic of Birds - is published by Quarto today. It’s a celebration of the diverse world of birds and how nature can guide us through life’s stresses and strains and takes the reader on a captivating journey around the UK, exploring the world of birds and the stories of those that live alongside them.

Charlie wanted to pen a book for people who, like she once did, might feel nature is inaccessible and intimidating, to help them connect with the natural world and should they need to, use it as a source of solace in their own life. The book is divided into 12 chapters, each focusing on a bird species (the swift, peregrine, swallow and goose all make an appearance) and an insightful life lesson Charlie has learned around it.

‘It’s probably a bit strange, but several times in the book I ask the reader to put it down and look out of the window or if they’re outside, to look at the floor or the sky,’ Charlie told Harriet Cooper in our spring issue. ‘I want them to notice something new, whether it’s a plant, leaf, bud, bird or insect. There’s ways to experience the environment for everybody and my hope is that readers will then share that magic.’
