10 places for half-term fun in North Norfolk

From books and birds, trains and trails to cycling and coding, there’s plenty to keep your little nippers busy in North Norfolk this February half-term!

For budding bookworms…

Half-term at Holkham is set to be a real page-turner! Their Festival of Little Stories, from 15 to 21 February, will include storytelling, local author talks and readings, illustration workshops and a story trail around the park. The Norfolk Children’s Book Centre pop-up shop will be there, too. Check out the website to find out what’s happening each day.

For coders and digital creators…

DigiFest – an annual celebration of digital creativity in Norfolk libraries – returns throughout February, with free events for children and young people aged up to 16, aiming to inspire the next generation of coders and creators. There’s a packed programme with many of the events taking place during half-term, including Let’s Go Code at Hunstanton Library or Code Club Taster – Scratch at Aylsham Library, both on 17 February, to a Virtual Reality Demonstration at Cromer Library on 19 February. For train enthusiasts… 

Hop aboard the Bure Valley Railway’s Teddy Bear Express between 14 and 22 February, which runs between Aylsham and Wroxham. Take your teddy and enjoy a steam train journey complete with a themed activity aboard and teddy bear decorations at Aylsham Station. 

The Bure Valley Railway is Norfolk’s longest narrow-gauge heritage railway. Teddy bear lunch boxes will be available to buy from the Whistlestop Café at Aylsham Station.

North Norfolk Railway starts its 2026 season at February half-term (14 to 22 February), with steam and heritage diesel trains and smart 1950s and 1960s carriages in action on the 11-mile return journey from Sheringham to Holt. There’s lots to see at each station, including a children’s play coach and model railway at Holt and activity sheets on board the trains. Check out their rover tickets, which allow you to hop on and off all day.

For young nature lovers…

Have a go at Pensthorpe’s Winter Olympics of Nature Trail, inspired by the best of British wildlife. Running from 14 to 22 February, pick up your unique Pensthorpe track number and embark on a nature-themed journey, with information boards and Olympic-style challenges celebrating nature’s athletes. Uncover fascinating facts, meet cranes and flamingos, enjoy outdoor and pre-bookable indoor play, and the Olympics of Nature arts and crafts in the Discovery Centre.

NWT Cley Marshes is hosting two family events for half-term. Spot some of the rare and special birds on the reserve and learn how to use binoculars at Brilliant Birds on 16 February or join the team on 19 February, for winter crafts creating natural lanterns and windows from leaves and reed, before a short dusk stroll. The latter is suitable for ages 4 to 11 years.

For fun at the theatre…

The Captain Calamity Half Term Hullabaloo is coming to Sheringham Little Theatre on 18 February, with 55 minutes of magic and mayhem. Expect silly science, balloons and bubbles, giggle-some games, cheeky tunes, a few custard pies, and more, with a smelly dragon, a musical storyteller, a crazy professor and of course, the aptly named Captain Calamity!

For wonderful workshops…

Wells Maltings is hosting two workshops; Winter Wonderland Crafting with Creative Planet where you’ll make your very own cup warmers, mini yarn hats and snowflake suncatchers on 17 February (ages 4+) and Magical Winter Storytelling and Crafting on 19 February with children’s author Isabelle King, where you’ll enjoy snowy stories and make your own snowflake or winter animal (most suited to ages 7-11 years).

For a day out at a country estate…

There’s plenty to keep your little explorers busy at Blickling Estate over February half-term; head into the hall and enjoy a fun spotter trail or wander through the Winter Garden and see the daffodils and hellebores in bloom. There are buggy-friendly trails in the parkland (spot the pyramid-shaped mausoleum) plus a cycle hire hub, with options for all ages including electric bikes, balance bikes and children’s trailers.

Sandringham’s gardens will open from 14 to 22 February, a chance to admire the early spring bulbs. Experienced teacher, Nana Lavender, will run traditional forest school sessions on 17, 18 and 19 February in the woodlands next to the play area, complete with crafts, sensory learning, scavenger hunts and more. On 15 and 22 February, there will be family archery sessions with a fully trained GB instructor, including archery-based games and challenges (ages 4+, one family per session, up to six people).
