Little diners: Holt Garden Centre

17th May 2023

Out to lunch and play!

Words: Rachel Bowles

In anticipation of National Children’s Gardening Week and a visit to pick up seeds and supplies, we checked out The Garden Terrace Café and facilities at Holt Garden Centre on Holgate Hill, Kelling. The cafe is situated near the back of the store, with large windows overlooking the terrace, perfect for alfresco dining on sunny days.

It’s table service here, so there’s a restaurant feel but with a relaxed approach and some of the friendliest staff we have encountered. Eliza chose the sausage, triple cooked chips and baked beans, £6.95, and Zachary opted for the roast pork, £10.25, which came with its own side plate of cauliflower cheese, apple sauce and a miniature jug of gravy. What’s lovely is they offer a full roast here every Wednesday in addition to a Sunday, perfect for roast lovers like Zachary! Be sure to try a dessert if you can fit it in; we shared a berry cheesecake and it was delicious – all their cakes and desserts are made in-house.

After your meal, let your children burn off their energy in the play area adjacent to the cafe. With beautiful views across fields, you can spot the North Norfolk Railway trains running back and forth in the distance. This is a great place to explore and dine as a family, and it’s advisable to book ahead.
