Little adventures: Holkham High Ropes

Swinging amongst the trees, we embarked on the high ropes adventure course at Holkham Estate

Sympathetically built around the woodland play area, the route is made up of two separate loops that each end with a long zip line. There are a range of crossings between the trees – seesaws, wobbly bridges and tight rope sections with hand ropes along the way. Crossings can hold two people, and each platform (at the tree intersection) can hold three people. This allows an element of assisting your child in-between if required.
We were carefully fitted with a harness by members of the fully trained team, who also gave us a safety session, which included a trial course. There are two points of attachment, one which you clip in and out of, and the main one which is a continuous system. Eliza needed more assistance since this was her first experience and she opted to do part of the course; it was Zachary’s third time here and being generally fearless anyway, he was whizzing around. There are lots of staff on hand to give tips and encouragement from the ground. We all came away feeling exhilarated and proud of ourselves. It’s a great activity to do as a family with an element of adventure, and the adrenaline when descending the zip lines is addictive!
