Getting together over breakfast has become something of an NNL meeting tradition, so we thought we’d share a few of our old – and new – favourites!

Words: Bridget Steele and Amanda Loose

White Horse Bakery, Holme-next-the-Sea

This new addition to the coast has quickly become a favourite with the NNL team. Sited in a converted barn across the courtyard from the White Horse Holme pub, both are part of the Anglian Country Inns stable. The bakery’s interiors are uber stylish with a rustic, farmhouse vibe – think vintage rolling pins adorning the walls and a cosy sofa set up in the corner. We headed here for a good catch up; I enjoyed a croissant filled with Staithe Smokehouse Salmon and soft cheese (£8.50), whilst my colleague opted for Clarence Court poached eggs on sourdough (£6) with smoked salmon (£5.50). The breakfast menu is really varied, from baker’s granola bowl or overnight oats to smashed avocado on sourdough with chilli jam, and there’s plenty of outside space for sunny days. Pick up a loaf of homemade bread or perhaps some Viennoiserie for a treat later and you’re all set!

The Mill Kitchen, Norfolk Lavender, Heacham

With its new layout and smart refurb, The Mill Kitchen is a lovely spot, surrounded by pretty planting outside and of course, lavender! There are plenty of hearty breakfast choices here and my eggs Benedict (£9.95) was a real treat with crispy bacon, a perfectly cooked poached egg and a generous helping of hollandaise sauce. Equally well received were the traditional full English (£12.95) and the vegetarian full English (£11.50) – both the team thoroughly enjoyed them and were pleased to choose how they liked their eggs cooked and to have the choice of white or granary bread, all washed down with good coffee.

The menu includes lighter options such as toast, waffles and baps, too, with vegetarian dishes including the field mushroom Benedict. Stock up on provisions at the onsite farm shop afterwards!

The Parlour, Binham

Now this is an old favourite. Housed in a converted 17th century Grade Il listed barn overlooking the owners’ working dairy farm and next door to Binham Priory, The Parlour is a popular brunch venue (booking is definitely advisable).

My colleague had smashed avocado with a poached egg on sourdough toast (£9) and I opted for a sauté of mushrooms with confit shallot and thyme with a fried egg, on sourdough toast (£10) which was such a tasty flavour combination. Other breakfast dishes here include huevos rancheros, eggs Benedict and full English (there’s a veggie option for this). Our top tips? Book one of the tables with views of the farm’s cows – they provide the milk which is used in the cafe – and do give yourself enough time to explore the priory, it’s fascinating.
