10 places for a romantic stay in North Norfolk

29th January 2026

Congham Hall

This Georgian manor spa hotel, near King’s Lynn, is situated in 50 acres of parkland, complete with a renowned herb garden and orchards, and offers 31 bedrooms, suites and cabins. We especially love the five luxury architect-designed cabins in the heart of the orchard, with their floor-to-ceiling wall of windows, free-standing baths inside and out (how romantic is that), plus super-king beds and monsoon showers. There’s also the on-site spa with indoor pool, thermal suite and treatment menu, and their afternoon tea is pretty special!

You’ll love exploring nearby Sandringham, the much-loved country retreat of King Charles III and Queen Camilla. The house and gardens are open from late March to early October (apart from certain dates), while the gardens are open select dates in February and March, too.

Shepherd Huts at The Victoria, Holkham

Billed as ‘taking glamping to the next level’, there are four bespoke shepherd huts here to choose from, each with a king-size bed, build in dog den, fully-equipped kitchen, and bathroom with luxurious drench shower. Enjoy your morning coffee at the breakfast bar taking in the countryside views, dine at The Victoria (a must-do) and finish with a sundowner on your private patio as the sun sets over the meadow.

You’ll love walks on Holkham Beach for your Shakespeare in Love moment (it was the setting for the closing shots of the film) and watching the wildlife at Holkham National Nature Reserve, both pretty much on your doorstep.

Orchard Cottage, Ringstead

Well. this is a lovely one, blending contemporary and cosy cottage vibes with a really thoughtful interiors scheme – think a largely neutral palette and pops of blue. There’s a four-poster bed with French linens, traditional Norfolk winder stairs, beams, a very well-equipped hand-built kitchen, plus wood burner, free standing bath, garden room, and a fully enclosed rear garden.

You’ll love Ringstead! There’s The Gin Trap Inn, a village shop with cafe and you’ll be spoilt for choice on the walks front. Peddars Way passes through the village to join the Norfolk Coast Path, there’s the Ringstead Downs, which is one of the largest remaining areas of chalk grassland in the county, and two walks from Courtyard Farm.

The Gunton Arms

Set in a 1000-acre deer park and home to one of the UK’s most prestigious private art collections, courtesy of owner Ivor Braka, (with works by Tracey Emin, Damien Hirst, Lucian Freud and Paula Rego, to name a few), The Gunton Arms is a destination for art and food lovers alike. In fact, it has just been placed 16 in the 2026 Estrella Damm Top 50 Gastropubs list. With interiors by British designer Robert Kime, there are 16 bedrooms to choose from, with views over the park and a stylish, lived in, country house feel.

You’ll love eating in! The Elk Room fire is at the heart of their offering and is where chef Stuart Tattersall (formerly of Mark Hix) cooks locally sourced venison, Blickling beef and South Creake pork over flames.

Mill View, Burnham Norton

Countryside views? Check. Wood burner? Check. Juliet balcony? Check. This upside-down cottage, a short walk from the Norfolk Coast Path, has two en suite bedrooms downstairs, and a bright and airy kitchen and dining area, and sitting room on the first floor, with large windows really maximising those views! The interiors are nicely done and include some nods to the surrounds. The shaker style kitchen is well-equipped, and outside there’s a lovely, enclosed south facing garden.

You’ll love walking along the Norfolk Coast Path to Burnham Overy Staithe and the Hero pub. A visit to Burnham Norton’s church, St Margarets, on a hill outside the village, is also a must. This medieval round tower church is really impressive and features a wineglass pulpit.

The Artist’s Studio, Kelling Estate

This one-bedroom secluded property, once the studio of local artist Anthony Benjamin, is a cosy, peaceful spot, with countryside views, a terrace, plenty of mod cons and luxe touches, including a Bose music system. You’ll have access to the nearby Lowes tennis and Pickleball courts, whilst Kelling beach and the Norfolk Coast Path are only a short walk away.

You’ll love the ‘Eating in with Ease’ menu, a selection of freshly prepared evening meals cooked by the Holt Garden Centre chefs and delivered for your arrival or for any day of your stay. Homemade lasagne with salad and garlic bread, or maybe Thai green vegetable curry with basmati rice and naan? Sounds good to us…

The Carriage, Burnham Market

Situated on the old station platform at the boutique, room-only Railway Hotel, this restored railway carriage – which made its final journey in 1952 – has been transformed into luxurious and characterful room with en suite. Think a king-size bed, rainfall shower, deep copper sink, and a smart TV, combined with plenty of original character. Enjoy use of the hotel’s secluded garden and hidden sunken hot tub.

You’ll love heading into the centre of the Georgian village of Burnham Market and enjoying a romantic dinner at award-winning Socius, which specialises in small plates, using delicious local seasonal produce.

Nutkins, Little Massingham

Set on the wider Little Massingham Estate, Nutkins is the perfect spot to get away from it all and switch off. There’s a light and airy open-plan living area, king-size bed, and en suite with bath and shower, modern kitchen, and terrace with a hot tub and firepit. Enjoy walks on the estate (there are 63 acres of private grounds), exploring meadow and woodland.

You’ll love the site’s Woodland Spa, with hot tub, barrel sauna and cold-water plunge, plus views over the countryside, and the on-site Orchard Beauty Rooms which offers facials, soothing body treatments and more.

The Brisley Bell

This award-winning pub with rooms – a former coaching inn – does cosy with bells on, with its inglenook fires and candlelit corners. There are six en-suite rooms set within converted barns, with luxurious, really interesting interiors, all opening onto the Bell’s two-acre landscaped gardens (named one of the best pub gardens by the Royal Horticultural Society last summer). Troose, for instance, is spacious haven, with a roll top bath in the bedroom, en suite with shower, a super-king bed, antique chaise lounge and its own outdoor seating area. With Michelin-trained Hervé Stouvenel at the helm, eating at the Bell is a great option!

You’ll love staying local. Nearby North Elmham, for instance, is home to the ruins of a small Norman Chapel which was converted into a castle in the 14th century. Next door to this, is the magnificent parish church with painted 15th century rood screen, partially restored medieval wall painting, and more.

Knapton Hall Annexe

You’ve the best of a coast and country staycation here. Just a couple of miles from Mundesley beach, this one-bedroom stay has a shared outdoor swimming pool (available July to September) and access to a pretty walled garden. Inside, there’s a smart country style kitchen diner on the ground floor, with a lounge and bedroom with king-size bed and an en suite shower room upstairs.

You’ll love exploring the nearby coastal towns and villages including Cromer with its pier, museum and eateries, including relative newcomer Fino, which was named Best Local Restaurant Central & East of England 2025 by The Good Food Guide.
