From trails, trains and theatre workshops to rockpools, fossil hunting and lambs, there’s plenty to keep your little crew busy in North Norfolk this Easter

Hop over to Holkham

Holkham’s parkland trail is a brilliant excuse to get some fresh air. Grab one of their trail sheets throughout the Easter holidays and follow the boards to crack the code. Their Walled Garden Easter event from 3 to 6 April brings hands-on games and races, meet-the-animal moments, arts and crafts, and The Totally Amazing Magic Show.

Join the tea party at Blickling

Blickling Estate hosts an Easter Adventures Tea Party until 13 April, and everyone is invited. Follow a trail of games and challenges through the daffodil-filled gardens: can you gather all Mr Duck’s ducklings? Will you find all the hidden teacups? Can you spin the wheel to see which creature you are, then zoom around the course by moving like this animal? The trail includes an Easter trail sheet, bunny ears and dairy or vegan and Free From chocolate egg. See the lambs

Felbrigg Hall Farm’s Farmer Graham’s Lambing Open Days are back, on 28 and 29 March, and 3 to 6 April, with a SEN day on 1 April (split into two bookable sessions, email felbrigghallfarmlambing@gmail.com). Play it wild at Pensthorpe

Pensthorpe’s Easter Garden comes into bloom between 28 March and 6 April, with colourful decorations, nature-themed surprises and hidden eggs waiting to be discovered. Afterwards, hop along to the nature reserve’s brand-new outdoor play area. At this time of year, you’ll likely spot lots of cute chicks and goslings as you go.

Be a rock star

The Norfolk Wildlife Trust is hosting a rockpool rummaging event at West Runton beach on 31 March. Investigate the secrets of the seashore, with experts on hand to help you identify your finds. Wear sturdy shoes and keep your eyes open. That afternoon, there will be a fascinating fossils event at West Runton beach, where you’ll learn about some of the amazing creatures that were found here millions of years ago.

Work it out at Westacre

Westacre Theatre has a programme of creative workshops during the Easter holidays for budding actors and artists aged 8 to 11 years. First up is the Secret Art Club on 30 and 31 March, a one- or two-day workshop where children can enjoy creativity, colour and hands-on fun. Think learning exciting techniques, bold ideas and letting their imaginations go wild. All art materials are included. ‘Costumes & Capers’ on 9 and 10 April, will be run by Camilla from MissAdventures Theatre Company, relaxed and friendly drama workshops where participants will have the chance to create scenes, plays, stories and characters, taking advantage of Camilla’s fantastic props and costumes!

Get creative at Oxburgh Estate

Follow the Oxburgh chickens and eggs trail, making your way along the Easter route where you’ll find activities for all the family. Take turns at creating, playing and much more. The trail, which runs from 28 March to 13 April, includes an Easter trail sheet, bunny ears and dairy or vegan and Free From chocolate egg. Whilst stocks last. Indoors, there will also be some simple craft activities available, inspired by the season.

Spell it out at Little Massingham Manor

Head to Little Massingham Manor for their Easter Letter Hunt, running mornings from 1 to 4 April. Follow the trail through the manor’s 63-acre grounds and search for hidden wooden letters. Spell out the secret word correctly and receive a chocolate egg at the end.

Get back to nature at Mannington 

Mannington Minnows is relaunching for Easter, an outdoor holiday club for children (and their grown-ups) who love to explore and engage with nature. The sessions, on 2 and 9 April, will be aimed at 7- to 11-year-olds, though older and younger siblings are welcome to join. Dress for the weather and be prepared to get a bit muddy!

Get active at Sheringham Park

Sheringham Park’s Easter trail will lead you through the woodland and wild garden, with several of the activities featuring hand-crafted wood from the park. Have a go at throwing hoops over Easter bunnies carved from tree stumps; pose for a picture with a pair of giant butterfly wings; put nostrils to the test to see if you can guess all the smells at the sensory station. The trail, which runs from 28 March to 12 April, includes an Easter trail sheet, bunny ears and a dairy or vegan and Free From chocolate egg. Hop aboard the Easter eggs-press

North Norfolk Railway invites you aboard the Easter Eggspress (28 March to 12 April). As you choo choo between Sheringham and Holt on the restored steam train, can you help Morgan the Railway Cat find all his eggs? Afterwards, be sure to spend time in the Play Coach at Holt station, complete with a mini ticket office and children’s model railway.

Go round and round the garden

Fairhaven Woodland & Water Garden at South Walsham is hosting a nature trail Easter egg hunt from 3 to 8 April. Explore the garden, answer the questions and win a Cadbury chocolate egg and a bag of duck food. Places are limited so do book ahead.
