Beauty at-home

23rd March 2021

We asked two local experts to share their at-home routines and hacks

Lockdown locks with Charley Davies of Barnetts

I’m using lockdown to really look after my hair, so have only been using heat on it once a week – I’m definitely rocking the messy bun look. I wash my hair twice a week so will apply my Bumble and bumble Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil Primer religiously, and Bumble’s Curl Mousse which I then leave to air dry, or Repair Blow Dry cream, depending how I want to style it.

My top hack right now is applying Bumble’s While You Sleep masque to my hair in the morning, sticking my hair up and then washing it off later that evening or next day. I have lots of tutorials on our Instagram and Facebook on easy hair styles too.

I have also found my scalp is getting dry and flaky lately (constant dry shampoo and messy buns) so have been using Bumble’s Scalp Detox. It’s super gentle; you apply it to the scalp before washing your hair. You will feel it fizz and tingles whilst it removes excess oil, impurities and product build up.

My hero products include the multi-tasking, Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil moisturising shampoo, which instantly transforms dry, coarse or brittle hair, leaving it soft, silky, and smooth. A blend of six featherlight oils helps soften, silken, tame, de-frizz, detangle, and protect against breakage, without weighing hair down.

Prêt-à-powder Très Invisible Dry Shampoo, an invisible, 2-in-1 style extender with UV filters that cleanses and adds volume from roots to ends.

Brownish and Blondish Hair Powders, tinted dry shampoos which absorb excess oil, boost texture, and enhance and refresh colour. They’re great for covering roots.

The Retreat’s Bec Newstead’s skincare schedule

As a mummy to four-month-old twins, you can imagine how sleep deprived I am, which has a big impact on your skin. So I’m using products to help boost radiance and restore some form of glow to my skin. I cleanse, tone and moisturise morning and night, and add boosters and/ or a mask treatment most days too.

In the morning, I cleanse in the shower with Elemis Gentle Foaming Facial Wash, then a quick spritz afterwards with Elemis Apricot Toner. I moisturise with Elemis Peptide4 Adaptive Day Cream which is great for adapting to what your skin needs and helps to blur fine lines and wrinkles.

Most days I finish with Elemis Superfood Glow Priming Moisturiser which gives a fab illuminated look and also doubles up as a makeup primer. Jane Iredale Dreamtint gives me my SPF protection which is vital all year round as well as helping to give the skin a more radiant, even finish!

In the evening, if I’ve been wearing full makeup, I use Elemis White Flower Makeup Remover to remove eye and lip makeup – it’s the most gentle makeup remover I’ve ever used so great for sensitive eyes.

I cleanse with Elemis Superfood AHA Glow Cleansing Butter which I sometimes leave on for a few minutes as it acts as a deep cleansing mask, then tone using Elemis Superfood Kefir Tea Mist.

I moisturise with one of my favourite ever products, Elemis Peptide4 Night Recovery Cream-Oil. My skin is left rebalanced, restored and replenished and looks like I’ve had eight hours sleep!

As boosters throughout the week I mainly use Elemis Peptide4 Plumping Pillow Facial, an overnight mask treatment which is so great when you don’t get much free time. Or I use Environ’s Hydrating Oil Capsules, great for giving a real moisture surge to skin and feel so luxurious and velvety.
