No1 Bootcamp Norfolk

16th March 2022

It may be intensive, but No1 Bootcamp Norfolk is motivational and rewarding too, says Harriet Cooper

It’s 6am. Yet here I am, doing squat pulses, followed by half sits and a lap around the running track. And repeat. It may sound like purgatory, but I am flushed with exhilaration and flooded with endorphins. I’m at No1 Bootcamp Norfolk. Set in a 21-bedroom country house in Heacham, the residential fitness retreat is not for the faint-hearted, but my fellow boot campers share my enthusiasm. This is in large part due to our trainers who are encouraging and, yes, kind.

I am here for the day camp, though the others have booked in for a week or more. But we’re all looking for one thing: to get fitter and feel better. No1 Bootcamp starts with a 1-to-1 session on the inbody composition machine which, amongst other things, measures visceral fat levels (the fat stored around your vital organs).

With every client different, training and nutrition is individually tailored. The week follows a packed programme of classes, taught in a group environment. On my visit we do HIIT, weights, boxing and a hike; other days it could be cardio, body pump, aerobics, spinning… Expect an average of seven hours’ training and activity a day, plus seminars. Nutrient-packed meals are served in the airy dining room. Cinnamon porridge with berries is delicious; so too is the lunch of chicken kebab with squash and wilted greens.

What I love here, motivational patter and training aside, is the ethos. This place isn’t about losing weight fast. While it is a means of moving towards desired body goals, it’s also about changing your mindset for a healthier, happier you. As I say goodbye to my newfound friends, I’m inspired. And that’s got to be a good thing.

Prices start from £150 for the day camp or £1,390 for seven nights including accommodation, personalised training and all meals.
